“Colombia Whitewater” is a newly founded nonprofit organization with the mission of helping to conserve and protect the rivers of Colombia by exploring and documenting their watersheds, and by promoting responsible ecotourism in Colombia. Mark Hentze and Aaron Rettig co-authored Colombia Whitewater, which is the first guidebook to the whitewater rivers of Colombia. Mark along with the legend Kees Van Kuipers and others returned during the 2011 winter and will return for the 2011/2012 season and continue gathering beta for the second edition of the book Colombia Whitewater. The nonprofit organization will offer guided kayak trips and a kayak school to help fund and establish the nonprofit organization. Any profits from the 2012 guided kayak trips, the kayak school and future editions of the book will be used to help establish the nonprofit organization. In the future we hope to initiate projects to help improve access for kayakers and to create a hostel and transportation friendly “Kayaker Trail”, similar to Chile, Argentina and Ecuador. Most importantly a “Kayaker Trail” that is eco-friendly and benefits the locals. We hope to initiate projects to help conserve and protect the wild and scenic rivers of Colombia. And of course we hope to continue exploring and documenting the wild and scenic rivers of Colombia. By sharing the beauty of Colombia’s rivers with the world hopefully we can help to preserve and protect their watersheds and ecosystems.
The nonprofit corporation was incorporated in Oregon during July of 2011 and we are in the process of completing the IRS 1023 and hopefully establishing our IRS 501(c)3. More information soon...
