Tyler Bradt setting up the boof on El Feo, Rio San Juan, Antioquia.
“The Long Trip” of Central Colombia is for those with a little more time to spare and who would like to experience the Rio Chicamocha, a three day self support trip through one of Colombia’s most scenic canyons. The schedule is full and we will paddle for 12 days of the 14 day trip. We will gather in Medellin during the afternoon or evening before day 1, then depart first thing in the morning on day 1 for the nearby Rio Buey and the Rio San Juan. After a few days of paddling in the department of Antioquia we will then travel to Tobia, a small typical Colombian pueblo near the Rio Negro, and paddle the Rio Negro and one of the nearby creeks. After Tobia and the Rio Negro we will travel to San Gil, the adventure sports capital of Colombia, and the nearby Rio Suarez and Rio Fonce. We will base out of San Gil and sample the fine selection of nearby rivers and creeks. To end the trip we will do a three day self support trip on the Rio Chicamocha, one of Colombia’s most scenic canyon’s with plenty of fine beaches for camping. After finishing the Rio Chicamocha unfortunately the river running is over and we will travel back to Medellin, where the tour began and where it finally comes to an end. The tentative schedule is below, but may change slightly due to weather, high water, low water, land slides or other unavoidable circumstances. The trip is designed to be flexible and to accommodate class III - class V kayakers depending upon the group’s preference and skill level. It may be possible to split the group and half the group paddle class III and the other half paddle class V.
Please send an email to RSVP. We will request a deposit 90 days before the trip and full payment prior to the trip.
